Straight Defender-Flex Jean
Welcome to the 511 Tactical Straight Defender-Flex Jeans Product Review By Warriors Magazine.
No kidding around, these are the most comfortable pair of jeans I have ever worn in my life. They have a ton of pockets for your everyday essentials, plus a NEW tactical pocket fitted for an extra magazine (both low and high capacity).
Most jeans are essentially the same to me, but there are some deal breakers. I choose jeans based on comfort, range of motion limitations, pockets, cost, and if I think they will make my butt look good for my wife.
Every pair of jeans I have ever worn have either had small pockets or provided limiting range of motion in the areas that matter most. Yes, that means the groin, buttocks and hip area. If I feel any restriction while walking, squatting, running, jumping or kicking, then I become rapidly irritated.
So, let's get into it, shall we?
511 Tactical Straight Defender-Flex Jeans is the perfect name for everyday wear self-defense gear. Check!
These denim jeans weigh in at 10 0z, which make them super light weight. They are made from cotton (76%) and polyester (24%), so shrinkage can occur if thrown in the dryer after a rinse cycle. They are crafted as a straight fit for a functional lifestyle, allowing plenty of stretching for #FREEDOM in the most important areas. This pair of jeans has a total of 7 pockets, two of which are designed as "Tactical" pockets to conceal carry extra pistol magazines (both high and low capacity). The belt loops are big enough for any standard dress pant belt or tactical belt for everyday carry tools (e.g. pistol, tourniquet, knife, etc.).
Warriors Magazine Criteria Review
Whether I want to jump, run, climb or kick a bad guy in the face, I have complete freedom in these jeans to do so. It may sound ridiculous, but if I need to execute a compound movement, I have complete faith that these jeans will allow for it.
Now, there has been much criticism about the depth of the pockets on these jeans. I must say that I have not experienced this problem. I feel the standard pockets all offer plenty of depth for my phone, my knife, my hands and my wallet. Plus, now I can quickly pull an extra magazine out of the tactical pocket quickly.
The highlight of the Straight Defender-Flex Jeans is the tactical pocket feature. This is designed to conceal carry extra magazines, and it does it well.
I do not care how tactical a pair of jeans is; if they are not comfortable, then I simply will not be wearing them. Fortunately, the Straight Defender-Flex Jeans pleasantly surprised me to be the most comfortable pair of jeans I have ever worn. I have worn $200 pairs of jeans before from Diesel and the comfort is night and day.
One of my fears was that the magazine concealed in the tactical pocket would be uncomfortable while sitting or lying down. Again, I was pleasantly surprised that the Glock 43 +1 magazine was essentially unnoticeable while I sat down. I cannot comment on any other magazine sizes, however.
#4: ALWAYS ON YOU
I don’t always wear jeans, but when I do, I will be wearing 511 Tactical Straight Defender-Flex.
#5: EASY TO TRAIN / MINIMAL TIME NEEDED
These jeans are super easy to train in. Most personal defense situations will occur when you least expect it to. This means you are more than likely going to be dressed in every-day apparel. Therefore, the clothing you wear must have the ability to adapt to the situation at hand. I have ran in these jeans, jumped in these jeans, lifted weights in these jeans, and kicked in these jeans. They are easy to train in.
These jeans are 10 oz. They are very lightweight and flex. Therefore, the weight of these jeans should not influence a person’s ability to complete a task.
These jeans are designed for men, but if there is a comparable women’s pair, I would imagine it would be just as easy to operate daily tasks in.
I have worn these jeans for about 4 months now. I do not see any tears or frays in the material thus far. The flex in the jeans has remained even after several dozen washes.
The only negative review I have for these jeans is the craftsmanship as it relates to the color of the jean. For a solid month I could not get the jeans to stop bleeding blue. My hands would turn dark blue from being in the pockets, and the white chair in our home would have streaks of blue left on it. Fortunately, my mother recommended I wash the jeans with salt. This solved the problem after just one rinse cycle.
They are listed on 511’s website for $69.99 plus shipping and handling.
There is no doubt in my mind that this will be my jean choice for a long time. I wear them multiple times every week and they remain comfortable and durable each and every time. I have never spent less than $100 on a pair of jeans. So, these are the first pair under $100 that I have ever worn consistently. For the quality of product, and the stealth feature of the tactical pockets, I truly believe this is an unbelievable bargain. I highly recommend this product to all men.
