Family has always meant the world to Joshua Shelton. For him, the Army represented a brotherhood and sisterhood of his fellow soldiers. However, the addition of Duke to his family was the necessary result of other unwelcome, life-changing circumstances. Josh joined the Army in 2006. He was deployed to Iraq just two months after graduating boot camp, and soon thereafter lived through two particularly traumatic encounters.
